Social Change Agents turn Apathy into Activity

Daily Bread Organisation

Daily Bread Organisation is a place of safety for children in need and survivors of domestic abuse.  Orphaned and vulnerable children are offered care, clothes, meals, life skills education, counselling and sanctuary. We assist various shelters in the Gauteng area, we support communities with feeding schemes at various schools and, to our knowledge, we are the only organisation of our kind in the Northern suburbs of Johannesburg. For most of the children that we support, the meal that we provide is the only food they will receive that day. In the last 6 years, we have also housed and assisted over 2800 abused or homeless women and children.

Daily Bread Organisation began in 2008 when founder Charmaine McGinley found herself unemployed and with few options. Without a strong support network of family and friends, she would not have been able to cope and support her young daughter. It was this experience that led her to find her true calling in social development.

Our mission is to feed every hungry mind and to give a hand up – not a hand out.

Organisational Goals

The organisation's main objective is to engage the community in activities that support and empower those less-fortunate within the community. These activities include but are not limited to the following:

·       Welfare and Humanitarian activities

·       Early Childhood Development

·       Education and Skills Development activities

Navigating our Site

Through its work in the Kya Sands and Masawawa communities, the Daily Bread Organisation has been able to engage and empower the women and children who have been neglected or abandoned by our society. We intend to do this through the five major projects we are rolling out during the 2011 through 2019 period.

On this site, you'll find more information about these projects, our partners, our donors and how you can help to enrich the Kya Sands community and your own life through volunteering in a truly meaningful organisation.

Be sure to visit our Testimonials section to read the inspiring stories of those whose lives we have touched - or visit our Gallery and see for yourself the difference a small and under-resourced team has made with only love, determination and dedication to our journey with the residents of Kya Sands

Getting Involved

We are always looking for volunteers to assist with our events, our projects or our fundraising. Donations in kind or otherwise are also more than welcome. Anything from a minibus to meal vouchers to movie tickets to blankets is something we can use and that someone in the community will appreciate. Visit our About Us, Projects and Events pages to learn more about our work.
